Your consultation

Please bring:

  • your appointment letter
  • a list of your medicines and allergies
  • recent X-rays or scans, or details of where they were taken
  • your questions – writing them down helps

You are welcome to bring a relative or friend. A chaperone is always offered for examinations, and an interpreter can be arranged in advance at no cost to you.

Making a decision about surgery

Will follows the GMC's guidance Decision making and consent. That means you will:

  • hear about the risks that matter to you, not only the most common ones
  • be told about reasonable alternatives, including no treatment
  • receive written information to read at home
  • have time to think – consent for planned surgery is not taken at your first appointment
  • be supported to get a second opinion if you would like one

Your care, step by step

Decisions made together, with time to think.

  1. 01 Assessment A full history and examination, with imaging only when it will change your treatment.
  2. 02 Planning Where it helps, 3D virtual surgical planning and discussion with the wider team – orthodontists, dermatologists, radiologists or the head & neck MDT.
  3. 03 Shared decision The benefits, risks and alternatives that matter to you, in writing. Consent is never taken on the day you first hear about an operation.
  4. 04 Treatment & recovery Day-case surgery where it is safe, a written aftercare plan and follow-up only when it adds value to your care.
